Our Other Rabbit Breeds

Normel Stud

In 2004 Norman persuaded me to adopt a second breed which was the very beautiful shaded sallander.  We started with stock from Dave Pounder and obtained an excellent doe from Steve Armstrong this immediately produced a buck of top quality winning best sallander at Bradford Championship 2006.

In an effort to improve coat we borrowed a buck which has since been named Gulliver because he came to the land of the giants, kindly loaned by Steve Armstrong again.  This has produced some excellent sallanders and thuringers one of which was best thuringer at London Championship Show 2006.

Mel's Bunnies

Three years or was it four years ago Jane Bramley a long standing friend of mine asked if I would take on and breed blue eyed white mini lion lops.  Of course I said no (I had enough on already) but left Jane's with a black and a agouti lion lop which I crossed into my blue eyed white minis and after 4 years of selection put foward 7 of these to a Breed Standards Commitee at the Bradford Championship Show 2007.  A lot of hard work went into these the usual highs and lows, rabbits moving between Upton and Selby to improve coat mane and type.  The final result at the moment being Elvis pictured below.

Mini Lion Lops

Elvis (BEW)

I am now working on a sooty fawn and an iron grey ( but I prefer the name sallander).

The following picture is a litter of sooty fawn lion lops sired by Upton's Pelham.

MINI REX

I have a few select mini rex mainly brokens

Above is a litter out of Pete who is ahown below

In 2006 I saw some really tidy Netherland Dwarfs, so as I used to show and judge these I decided to try some, below is Spitfire 2 a black otter buck, he is the first Neddy I bred from this stock

I then bought a red agouti buck as his colour was gorgeous, oddly enough he is named Red

Both are good type bucks still young and will improve with age, they have good ears and a sound set up.  Below are three litters out of Red, as you can see he is a prolific boy.
